HISTORY

Vernon and District Association for Community Living marked its 65th anniversary in 2020. Normally we would have held a special celebration, but of course that was not to be. Instead, it was a year of implementing protocols and modifying programs to keep everyone safe. We had almost made it through the year unscathed, then on Christmas Eve we had a COVID-19 outbreak at one of our residential care homes that infected the five residents and seventeen staff. Two of the residents were hospitalized, but everyone made it through and are now okay. It was truly heartwarming to see how our staff stepped-up to deal with these challenges.

Overcoming challenges is a recurring theme throughout our history. Our strength is in our compassion for others; it's what "fuels" us. When presented with a challenge, it pales in comparison to those faced by people with disabilities every day. As an organization we are very agile and resilient because we must be for those in our care.

For our 60th anniversary in 2015, we produced a record of our history titled "60 Years of Growing and Changing" that you can download. This year we went through thousands of historical pictures and posted twenty of them on our social media channels and on this page.
